Crow of the week

Continuing on into 2008, every week across the club, including youth cricket, a player who has performed outstandingly will have their picture posted on this page and a citation written about their performance. The person with the most Crow of the week nominations will become Crow of the year and will have an article published in the RCC Yearbook!

2nd team veteran and batsman Mick Miller won the award last year for an outstanding year with the bat.

Current Crow of the week

Matt Graham - scored a gritty 56 on a tricky wicket and made a return to seam bowling with creditable figures of 1-27 to restore some sanity to the end of season proceedings. Mention must also go to Richard Temple whose spell of 12 overs only went for 18 runs. For the 2nd XI Bruce Robinson took 4 wickets and at one stage had the astonishing figures of 4-0.

Archives:

Week 16 2008 - Ken Graham

Scored a quality 58 for the 1st XI before succumbing to injury for the 2nd week in a row, he pips Naveed Ahmad who scored a swashbuckling 54 to take the 1st XI to a seemingly good total.

Week 15 2008 - Richard Temple

Took the 1st XI to the brink with 5-39 against league leaders Balsham. Accompanied by a quality spell of quick bowling by Joe Carver under pressure to take 1-19 in 7 overs.

Week 14 2008 - Paul Miller and Paul Leary

Win the award jointly this week with Miller scoring a vital 69 for the 1st XI and Leary scoring 72, his first half century, for the Under 13s. Ken Graham scored 41 for the 1st XI and Naveed Ahmad, Chris Hootton and Matt Gillham took 3 wickets apiece to cap off a quality performance.

Week 13 2008 - Joe Carver

Scored his first adult 50 with a sparkling 57* and a nelectric run out against Saffron Walden for the 2nd XI. Matt Graham top scored for the 1st XI with 37 and Richard Temple took 3-27. However, special mention must go to Paul Harris who bowled 13 crucial deliveries for the 1st XI and took 2 wickets for just 9 runs.

Week 12 2008 - Naveed Ahmad & Chris Hootton

Took 5 wickets a piece to demolish Cottenham for 45 and win the game for the 1st XI. Naveed also scored 21, the 2nd highest score of the match, and Chris will want me to mention his towering 6, he did only get 7 though.

Week 11 2008 - Ken Graham

Ddestroyed the Wilbrahams bowling on his way to an undefeated 139, the club's first hundred for 3 years and one that will hopefully launch a cascade of tons, and was ably supported by Chris Milton'as 69, his first half-century for his new club. Paul Harris' fine allround display of 51 and 4 wickets was unfortunately in vain for the 2nd XI.

Week 10 2008 - Dave Isherwood

Led his 2nd XI side to victory with a quality 78 followed up by 3 wickets to win the award this week. He narrowly pips Chris Hootton to the post, who took ten wickets in the weekend, 4-25 on Saturday for the 1st XI and 6 on Sunday in crushing Royston Polaris. David Boddy also surprised all with a swashbuckling 45* from 25 deliveries for the 2nd XI and Paul Miller continued his rich vein of form with 53 for the 1st XI.

Week 9 2008 - Paul Miller

Scored a masterful 97 not out from 74 balls to guide the 1st XI from a position of some peril at 40 for 2 from 20 overs to chase down the 191 needed with 2 overs to spare, a truly class innings. This could not have been achieved without the bowling displays from Martyn Tokley, Joe Carver and Matt Gillham who each took two wickets, Tokley also put on a match-turning partenrship of 63 with Miller. Also, not to forget that Toby Fynn took his first wicket on debut for the 1st XI following up his 4 wickets in the Keatley Cup semi-final.

Week 8 2008 - Richard Temple

Continues his amazing start to the season (20 wickets at 5.45 for the 1st XI) in taking 7 for 33 against Hardwick and Caldecote, 5 of the dismissals being bowled. OTher notable performances include Paul Miller's 46 for the 1st XI and his swashbuckling 60 in the Keatley Cup, Naveed Ahmad's 5 wickets for the 2nd XI, Toby Fynn's 3 wickets in the Keatley Cup, Nick Hootton's 3 wickets for the 2nd XI and Paul Harris' rearguard 39 for the 2nd XI that nearly took them to victory.

Week 7 2008 - Mick Miller

2007's winner makes his first appearance of 2008 on this page with a quality 92 for the 2nd XI to set up a crushing win, he was abley supported by Joe Carver's 44, who also added some hostile bowling to back-up Bruce Robinson's 3-15. Meanwhile in the 1st XI it was another Miller who led the way, Paul Miller scoring a composed 53, backed up by Richard Temple's 32 (who later ran through the Histon batting line-up with 4-27) and a beligerant 32* from Ashley Judge.

Week 6 2008 - Naveed Ahmad

Naveed Ahmad - hit 54 and took 3-36 for the 2nd XI to continue his impressive start to the season and inspire the 2nd XI to victory. Ken Graham scored a quality 73 for the 1st XI to show signs that the batting line-up might be about to fire, he was joined by John Bason whose intelligent innings boosted Royston to a comptetive total. Rory Harper scored another good 30 for the 2nd XI, along with good bowling performances from Bruce Robinson (3 for 28) and Toby Fynn (2 for 22) for the 2nd XI. The two debutants for the 1st XI showed glimpses of what is hopefully to come, with Ash Coveney bowling a tight spell to claim 2 wickets and Chris Milton taking one good catch and almost snaffling a stunner.

Week 5 2008 - Alan Hootton

In a week full of notable performances Alan produced a heroic spell of bowling to take 5 for 3 and set-up an amazing ten-wicket against the City of Ely. He was ably partnered by Richard Temple (3-13) and Temple's pace and Hootton's swing contrived to bowl Ely out for an incredible 21. We also salute Paul Miller who, relieved of the shackles of his wicketkeeping gloves, made a stunning direct hit from 50 yards to send the Ely collapse into full spiral. Naveed Ahmad continued his impressive start to the season for the 2nd XI with 43 and 2-22, Dave Isherwood took 2-20, Bonham Harper took his first senior wicket in a good spell and Rory Harper scored 35. In Rory's U15 side Adam Wright scored a good 35 and Alex Brain 30* whilst also taking 3 wickets. A full repertoire of sqwuarkingly good performances.

Week 4 2008 - Martin Leary

In a week where all Saturday games were washed out, Martin Leary provided a ray of sunshing on the Sunday opening and scoring a half century that took the team to the brink of victory

Week 3 2008 - Richard Temple

Dickie came away from Saturday's figures of 12-3-23-4 (which could have been slightly better, see 'Richard' of the day), bowling quickly on a stunning Therfield wicket, Dickie consistently hurried the batsmen and will be the spearhead that all other Royston bowlers must seek to emulate throughout the season. Chris Hootton recovered well to take 3-56, Matt Graham scored a composed 38 and Paul Leary and Bonham Harper got good 30s for the U13s.

Week 2 2008 - Naveed Ahmad

An incredible allroud display against his favourite opposition Wilbrahams II. After scoring 33* and taking 6-33 against them last year he followed it with 39 and 6-28 this year to almost take the 2nd XI over the line. Alan Hootton - settled on a length as ever against Wilbrahams and his nagging accuracy and nibbling movement brought him outstanding figures of 4-35. Other notable performances include Matt Graham's 42 for the 1st XI, Martin Leary's 47 on Sunday and Richard Temple's 33 and 2-21 for the 1st XI.

Week 1 2008 - Ashley Judge

Hit 58* in a pre-season Twenty20 against Royston Polaris, after limited availability in 2007 we hope that 'Judgey' will be able to provide similar clout throughout the season. He narrowly pipped Paul Miller (60*) to the post, and the pair shared 20 boundaries between them, including an enormous 6 onto the road from Miller. In the field all the bowlers chipped in, with legspinner Angus Batey taking two wickets with his devilish bowling.
